First Warn Forecast: rain and thunderstorms move in overnight, some may be strong to severe

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Rain and thunderstorm activity will become scattered across the area tonight. A few strong to severe storms are possible south of I-70. Storm activity comes to an end by sunrise Sunday.

A level 1/5 risk for severe weather is in place tonight for those such as Garnett, Paola, Harrisonville, Warrensburg, Sedalia and points south. This means a few isolated strong to severe storms will be possible with hail and damaging wind as the primary storm threats.

Rain and thunderstorm activity will exit to our east likely around sunrise on Sunday. Therefore, Sunday is looking dry, mostly sunny but windy. Winds will pick up throughout the morning and by the afternoon to the evening wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph, sustained winds of 15-20 mph will be possible. Luckily, winds will start to diminish in the evening. High temperatures will be near seasonal in the low 60s, just slightly cooler than Saturday. Due to warm, dry and windy conditions, there are elevated fire concerns for the day.

The first half of next week brings pleasant and quiet conditions. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny with high temperatures in the mid 60s Monday, around 70 Tuesday and in the upper 60s for Wednesday.

We start to see the weather switch it up to a warmer and more an active pattern starting Thursday and continuing through Saturday. High temperatures will be in the 70s. Spotty rain and thunderstorms will be possible Thursday & Friday, timing is still up in the air at this point. It will also be breezy.
