We are First Warning you for a chance of strong to severe storms over the weekend, but the good news is these likely won’t have a major impact on your outdoor plans. We will have lots of enjoyable time to be outside in the Kansas City area this weekend, but Saturday is the pick day over Sunday due to gusty winds coming back.

We anticipate some sort of break in the cloud cover for a few hours but partly cloudy skies build in again this evening. This evening brings the chance for a few isolated to spotty rain and thunderstorms, mainly north of I-70 in our northern counties. However, an isolated rain shower is possible for the metro between about 5 pm to 7 pm.

As we work into the weekend, another batch of rain and storm chances are on the horizon, from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Saturday looks to be warmer with high temperatures in the mid 60s with partly cloudy skies. For the most part we are expecting a dry day, rain and thunderstorm chances return after the sun sets through the overnight. A First Warn is in place for late Saturday with scattered rain and storms possible, some of which may be strong to severe. A level 1/5 threat for severe weather is in place across the area, hail is the primary threat but strong winds and heavy rain are possible with any strong to severe storm that gets going.

A dryer but windy pattern will take over for the the rest of Sunday. Winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph will be possible. High temperatures will be slightly cooler but remain in the lower 60s.

Luckily, a warmer dryer pattern takes over for next week increasing temperatures to the upper 60s by Tuesday and by Thursday just in time for baseball, high temperatures are forecasted for the lower 70s.
